I recently bought a small collection of reels, some I am familiar with and a couple that are completely new to me. Here's what's to come...
KODAK T-MAX P3200
I bought this film along with some of the others from AnalogueWonderland. I can not recommend the site enough. They stock a large range of weird and wonderful films but you should be quick because they go out of stock quickly!
I have seen and heard a lot of good things around this reel. The 3200 ISO B&W film appears to deal really well in low lit conditions such as bars and gigs. Having a new born I doubt I'll be going to either any time soon...
KENTMERE PAN 100
At the other end of the spectrum we have this 100 ISO film from KENTMERE.
As far as I can see on the AnalogueWonderland site their PAN film only comes in 100 ISO and 400 ISO. Described as having 'medium contrast and fine grain' this reel is described as a 'great starter-film at low speed for people trying 35mm film photography for the first time'. With the summer now well and truly on the way I look forward to shooting on this reel with a review to follow shortly afterwards.
KENTMERE PAN 400
As with the KENTMERE PAN 100 this reel is again described as being of 'medium contrast and fine grain'. Being of a mid-speed film it might seem better suited to cloudy days or well lit internal shots but I'm not planning to shoot box speed on this one. I'm looking to push a stop or two. Pushing film means to over expose it by 'x' amount of stops. Doing this should increase the contrast and looking at the images produced by this reel I think it would be advisable to do so.
FUJIFILM FUJICOLOR 400
Ah, my old friend. I love these. They're so accessible and readily available. I've shot a few reels of this by now and can safely say that I will be continuing to shoot more in the years to come.
I've never actually reviewed this reel before but once I've shot this one this summer I will definitely be following up with a review of my experience with it. Watch this space!
AGFA VISTA PLUS 200
Another fave of mine. Nothing special really. It's just cheap and it deals with colour really well. I shot a couple of these last summer and I was really happy with the results. They used to be sold in 'Pound Land' but unfortunately that is not the case any more as it has been discontinued. As with the Fujifilm Fujicolor 400 I will be pushing this film by one or even two stops as well as it's exposure latitude is very wide.
Closing Thoughts
All in all I've got a lot to look forward to this summer and these few reels are just the start. I look forward to sharing with you my personal experience of each of them.
